Mr Rene Chang, our Medical Director has a long history of collaboration with clinicians and academics in cutting edge research in Intensive Care Medicine, Renal Transplantation and General Surgical Procedures. (click here to view MASH's research history. pdf)Our approach is to embrace research, fresh thinking affecting patients' outcomes and emerging technologies especially the arrival of high technology "budget busting" new drugs in the critical care and renal transplant arenas. Cutting-edge clinical research deepens our understanding of the dynamic pathophysiological processes of the acutely ill patient in the ICU. MASH research sponsorships Ground breaking research, sponsored by MASH was completed by – Kathleen Daly for her PhD thesis. This was the development of an algorithm to Triage Discharge from ICU. The work won a prize at the International Symposium on Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at Brussels. Another MASH's research associate, Dr Marlies Ostermann (Consultant Intensivist-Guys & St Thomas's University Teaching Hospital, London) is working on factors affecting outcome from acute renal failure. Her original work was presented to the 15th Congress of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Barcelona. As a result of this work, Dr R Chang has been co-opted to the Committee of Metabolism and Nephrology of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
